Established 1998 Club # 01-120-140
Meets 4th Monday of each month at 1:00 P.M.
Except: June and July
The Jasmine Garden Club was organized in 1998 as interest was expressed at an Education Series for a club to include males and gardening couples. Our membership consists of individual men and women as well as married couples.
Most of the club members live on the north side of Nine Mile Road, but it’s certainly not a requirement. Since the club formed from persons attending the Ed Series, there has always been a strong interest in horticulture education, club programs and field trips which are steeped in all aspects of gardening from specialty plants as orchids, hydrangeas, and roses to more esoteric topics of design, landscaping, soil composition, and organic gardening. Answers to gardening questions are readily available from our Master Gardeners, as well as our “Jasmine Help Line”, a list of topics with the names of club members who can offer some expertise. The club meets the 4th Monday of the month year except June and July in members’ homes so we can enjoy their gardens.
As the members wanted more hands-on study of plants, we developed a monthly plant raffle in which a small committee selects a list of desirable plants, which may be of interest to the members. Each month a description of the selected plant, growing conditions and advantages are sent out to the members, raffle tickets are sold at the monthly meeting, and a winning name is drawn. Jasmine gardeners work with Habitat for Humanity by landscaping new homes, and providing Master Gardener Monthly Tips for the Habitat newsletter.
